A course designed to help
equip students for youth ministry in the inner cities of North America.
This class will look at the unique challenges and skills involved with
ministering to children and youth of the inner city. Students will also
look at holistic youth ministry models through reading, research, and field
interviews.
Course Objectives
The
student who successfully completes this course, in keeping with the college
mission, will be able to demonstrate the following specific course
objectives:
In Spirit

To seek the Lord's will
concerning possible future youth ministry in the inner city.

To develop a degree of
spiritual depth which would allow him/her to face the
challenge of inner city youth ministry.

To develop a heart that
aches for the lost youth of the inner city.

In Attitude
 |
To respect cultural
differences among youth of different ethnic groups.

To take on a learner’s
role in regards to the people and the context of the inner city.
|
 |
To identify and take
steps to break down any racial prejudice he/she might have.

In Understanding
 |
To know what information
and resources are needed to form a plan for youth
ministry in the inner city.

To know some of the
complexities of the inner city context.
|
 |
To know the general
similarities and differences between traditional youth ministry and
inner city youth ministry.

In Skills
 |
To analyze literature and
statistical information in order to assess the need for inner
city youth ministry.
|
 |
To formulate "possible"
approaches and strategies for inner city youth ministry based
on available information and research.

 |
Produce a research paper
and oral presentation on one of the vital concerns of inner
city youth ministry today.
